A woman in jail on child abuse charges was assaulted by multiple other inmates on January 11.
According to Deputy Ryan Inglett with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Samantha Osteraas was punched and had her hair pulled while her attackers referenced her injured child. They threatened to kill her.
Osteraas is in jail for allegedly intentionally burning her 5-year-old adopted daughter in a hot bath.
Osteraas has been moved into protective custody. She was offered protective custody when booked but declined.
It is customary for inmates who's cases received media attention to be offered protective custody.
The inmates who assaulted Osteraas have likely been moved to a different disciplinary housing unit.
