Tucson police have identified a woman killed in a wreck on the west side Tuesday morning as 37-year-old Leeann Marie Sanchez.

Police say just after 6:15 a.m. officers responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on West 36th Street, west of South Lands End Road.

As officers arrived, they located Sanchez in the roadway with obvious signs of trauma. She was pronounced dead on scene.

Detectives responded to the scene and learned Sanchez was walking eastbound on 36th Street on the south side of the road as the driver of a 98' Dodge van was also heading eastbound on 36th Street.

Police say the driver had observed the pedestrian and moved the vehicle away from Sanchez but she had stepped into the lane of travel and was struck by the van.

The driver of the van stayed on scene and witnesses rendered aid until medical personnel arrived on scene.

Police say neither speed nor impairment appears to be factors in the collision.
