SUMMERHAVEN, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - After a round of three storms everyone was itching to go to Ski Valley, but because the demand was so high they had to shut down Mount Lemmon highway Sunday.
Monday was a different story. Everyone who made the trek up the mountain got the chance to enjoy their first snow of the year.
This winter is not likely to disappoint. Ski Valley opened with a big base and big crowds.
It's Michael Turner's first visit to Mount Lemmon and he's no rookie. KGUN9 reporter Valerie Cavazos asked, "Where have you skiid before?" "Mostly New Mexico, Colorado and Vermont," He answered.
Cavazos: "How would you rank Mt. Lemmon?"
Turner: "For what it is, it's pretty up there. It's not too busy. Pretty good terrain. A lot of vertical."
KGUN9 met up with a few athletes who are no strangers to the cold -- The UA Ice Hockey Team.
"It's good. First time out here. I'm having a little bit of success," said Bryan Drazner.
"Just to be able to be on a mountain in snow in Tucson Arizona is huge," said Orion Olsen.
