TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Brown Fire, burning 18 miles north of Sasabe in the Baboquivari Mountains, has grown to 14,979 acres.

The fire was reported on June 17 and was ruled human caused.  One uninhabited structure and one outbuilding have been destroyed as a result of the fire.

According to InciWeb.gov, burn operations are taking place at the mouths of Thomas and Brown Canyons.  Areas above Las Delicias and Elkhorn Ranches have contributed to the fire’s increased acreage and containment.

Priorities remain public and firefighter safety, protecting structures in Brown and Thomas Canyons, and minimizing impacts of the fire to valuable resources in the area including Baboquivari Cave, Sycamore Canyon Springs and the Kitt Peak National Observatory.

Although temperatures today were slightly lower than on Sunday, ground and air operations continue to be challenged by high heat, low humidity, and steep, inaccessible terrain.
