TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Voters got them out and they have been shut off for months...but what will happen next with the red light camera poles?
The poles are still standing at some intersections.
Tucson City Council member Paul Cunningham says the Tucson Police Department is exploring ways to keep them up and use them in other ways.
"You could use them for traffic counts.. you could use them for surveillance.. For all kinds of things.. and I just don't think we have the capital right now to invest in that type of infrastructure," said Cunningham.
Cunningham says the city could sue American Traffic Systems if all of the equipment is not taken down.
It cost 1.8 million dollars to put the cameras up.
