Weisenburger, who served as bishop of the Salina, Kansas Diocese, replaces Bishop Gerald Kicanas.
Bishop Kicanas is retiring after 14 years in Tucson and says Weisenburger is ready to serve the roughly 450,000 Catholics in the Diocese.
"He is a bishop who has a deep sensitivity and compassion for immigrants and refugees and he has fought against the evil of payday loans leaving people paralyzed by death and understand struggling rural communities and has supported them," said Bishop Kicanas.
Bishop Weisenburger says he is excited to be in the southwest and one of his top concerns in immigration.
He will officially take over November 29th.
