Weekend rain, snow may affect snow levels at Ski Valley

TUCSON, Ariz. - Snow levels are still enough for slicing down the slopes on Mount Lemmon. But that could change, depending on this weekend's weather.

Ski Valley has been open for almost a week now. When conditions are just right, with enough snow and roads safe to drive on, Southern Arizonans flock to the mountain.

Area Manager Graham Davies says business takes a hit when Catalina Highway is closed.

"It's crushing, especially when there's a chance of rain or something like that," Davies said. "You depend on those days to ski and then the road's closed, it's devastating."

With rain and snow in the forecast Saturday, Ski Valley could close, once again. If the snow melts or conditions become too icy, Davies says there's no real plan in place, just yet.

"It truly just depends on what happens," Davies said. "If it's a little rain, or a lot of snow, who knows. We'll just play it by ear."

Check road conditions before you head out by calling 520-547-7510.
