A free Water Safety Expo will be held at Manzanita Pool Saturday.

The event is part of Drowning Impact Awareness Month.

The first 250 youngsters that attend will receive life jackets.

Attendees will also be able to participate in a Ghost Ship obstacle course, go down a waterslide and take a tour of firetrucks.

Every child drowning is preventable, and August is a peak time for child drownings in Arizona, Grant Bourguet, NRPR recreation program manager, said. While we want everyone to continue to enjoy various aquatic opportunities from backyard swimming pools, to lakes and oceans, it is imperative that everyone learns the importance of safety in and around the water. You are helping save a life!

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. - Noon.
