TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Vail school students got their work gloves and shovels ready today to help build a garden for themselves and the community.

Students spent their Friday planting fruit trees with the help of the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and the Vail Preservation Society.

"When they're working on the orchards, gardens, these are skills they can take with them through their lives.  it's gonna help them learn where their food comes from, it's going to encourage them to eat in a more healthy way," said

The students themselves will be enjoying the fruits of their labor. Some of the food will be sent to help those less fortunate.
