TUCSON, Ariz. - Two neighboring Vail high schools were placed on lockdown Thursday, a representative for Vail Unified School District said.

According to Tucson police, a male student or former student was seen on campus with what appeared to be a gun. No threats were made. Officers searched the area.

Pantano and Andrada High Schools, which are on the same plot of land at 13010 S. Houghton Road, were placed on lockdown as authorities investigated reports of a threat in the area.

About 160 students were on the schools' shared campus during the lockdown, said Vail spokeswoman Darcy Mentone.

Vail school officials said students went home some time after 4 p.m., and the scene was cleared.
