UPDATE (June 19, 9:40 a.m.) — The Big Casa Fire near Mount Wrightson remains at 5 acres and 0% contained, according to the Nogales Ranger District. About 60 personnel are assigned to the fire, with crews working overnight to secure the perimeter. Type 1 and Type 3 helicopters are assisting Friday by transporting firefighters and equipment and making water bucket drops. There are no evacuation orders, but Gardner Canyon remains closed to recreation, with law enforcement controlling access. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in effect, meaning drones are prohibited because they can interfere with firefighting aircraft and carry penalties of up to $25,000 and possible criminal prosecution.

A new wildfire has appeared near the top of Mount Wrightson in Santa Cruz County.
According to the US Forest Service, Ground support and air resources are on their way to respond "with direct extinguishment tactics for this full suppression fire."
Approximate acreage of the fire is unknown with 0% containment.
The fire is visible from Highway 83 and the surrounding area, US Forest Service said.
