TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — An interim complaint obtained by KGUN 9 describes the circumstances that led to the arrest of Niccolas Allen Coleman.
According to the complaint, Pima County Sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check at a drainage tunnel near North Perugia Way and West Ina Road.
They found a dead man lying on his bed with blood on his face, the complaint said.
The scene "showed signs of a violent assault," the complaint said. Deputies saw a blood-saturated carpet that had been cut out, a broken wine bottle with blood staining, and garments that had been cut from the victim's body, the complaint said.
One witness said a man known as "Jay" choked the victim to death after accusing him of having child pornography.
A second witness, who lived in the tunnel, said a man named "Freaky Frankie" or "Freaky Franco" started staying in the tunnel a few days prior. "Freaky Frankie" made a hand gesture indicating he had strangled the victim the morning of the incident.
A third witness said a man named "Jay" or "JJ" had "taken care of it" after finding child pornography and stealing the victim's green and gold mountain bike.
Detectives determined all of the suspects referenced were the same man, Niccolas Allen Coleman, the complaint said.
A witness identified Coleman in a lineup.
Coleman's child's mother confirmed he was homeless and associating with people in drainage tunnels at the time of the murder.
After being arrested, Coleman told detectives he was at the Paloverde Behavioral Health Institute on Feb. 4, but records show he was not admitted until Feb. 9, the complaint said.
