TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A renowned scientist at the University of Arizona has been awarded $7 million from the National Institutes of Health to boost research related to asthma.
As part of the five-year grant, Monica Kraft and her colleagues will be working to better understand complex genetic interactions with the hope of reducing lung inflammation and attacks in asthma patients.
UA President Ann Weaver Hart says the university's health sciences department has some of the best minds working to treat and cure asthma, and the grant will further strengthen the research already under way.
Officials say study participants will be recruited through the UA Health Sciences' Asthma and Airway Diseases Research Center.
