TUCSON, Ariz. - A local professor has avoided jail time after he was arrested on child porn charges in August.

On Monday, a Pima County Superior Court judge sentenced Peter Cotty to 25 years probation.

Cotty pleaded guilty to attempted sexual exploitation of a minor on Oct. 17.

In August, Cotty was accused of uploading child porn through an electronic service provider. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children passed on cyber tips to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

According to the department, the images show children engaged in sex acts.

Cotty is a U.S. Department of Agriculture instructor with ties to the University of Arizona.
