Tucson Unified School District is considering a proposal that would give University High School its own campus by taking over Catalina High School.

"A committee from UHS presented a proposal for a separate campus at the Governing Board meeting last night," district spokeswoman Michelle Valenzuela said. "The board voted to move the idea forward and directed the superintendent to take steps to explore the idea further."

University High School received an "A" grade from the Arizona Department of Education based on its standardized AzMERIT test scores. Catalina received a "D."

Currently, University is housed at Rincon High School, 421 N. Arcadia. Catalina is at 3645 E. Pima.
