The Tucson Unified School District may soon have a new budget watchdog.
The governing board voted three to two last night to open up the bidding process for an external auditor.
The current firm has a year left on its five-year contract.
Heinfeld Meech has been auditing the districts more than half-billion dollar budget for decades.
Board member Mark Stegeman cited two reasons for the move.
The board records show that the audit firms should rotate and a few high profile auditing failures involving Heinfeld Meech have emerged this year.
