TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson Unified School District welcomed dozens of students on Monday at Magee Middle School after a long journey from South Korea over the weekend. Those 41 students came from Ulleung-gun and Yeongyang-gun in South Korea to Tucson, participating in the district's Tucson-Korea Ambassador Program.

The students will live with host families for three weeks, as well as be paired up with students from TUSD schools to learn about American life.

Safford K-8 Magnet School Assistant Principal Jessica Harris decided to become highly involved in the program by becoming a host family to one of South Korean students. She told KGUN9, she was so impressed with how brave these students are.

"At first the language barrier seemed awkward for me and the student, but my child was able to jump right in... and really be able to understand this international language of just being human," Harris explained.
