A senior at Catalina Foothills High School was one of just two students from Arizona chosen to represent the state in a youth U.S. Senate program.
Meena Venkataramanan will spend a week in Washington D.C. to meet high-ranking elected officials and learn about the federal government.
"I've always been extremely interested in representing others," Venkataramanan told KGUN9. "In making society better and really taking the needs of the people around me and putting that into action."
She also gets a $10,000 scholarship.
Venkataramanan was also accepted to Harvard University where she wants to study Law. She hopes to become an attorney and get into politics.
