TPD: Elderly man hurt in officer-involved shooting

TUCSON, Ariz. - An elderly man was hospitalized Sunday night after being shot by a Tucson Police officer.

Starting around 2:40 p.m., Tucson Police received several 911 calls from different neighborhoods reporting a man with a gun was acting strangely.

Officers were not able to find the man. Moments later, a resident in the 2100 block North Northway Avenue called 911 to report the man.

When officers responded, they found a 70-year-old man in a neighborhood near East Grant and North Country Club.

A TPD officer shot the man. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be okay.

No officers were injured.

Detectives are administering an investigation.

Per protocol, the officer will be on administrative leave while TPD investigates.

Officer Matthew Knorr was the officer involved in the shooting.

Knorr has been with TPD for approximately a year and a half.
