Tucson Police are investigating a homicide at the Desert Palms apartments on Alvernon Way just south of Ft. Lowell.
Sgt. Pete Dugan says they located a man and woman with obvious signs of gunshot trauma upon arrival. Both were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Soon after the victims arrived at the hospital the male victim was pronounced dead. The woman was treated and her injuries are no longer life-threatening.
The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Johnathon Slowley.
Police received multiple calls around 6:30 p.m. reporting the shooting. The incident started inside an apartment then escalated to the parking lot.
Detectives responded to continue the investigation and have determined that the man inside his apartment with the woman who was shot and several other unknown men.
An altercation happened inside the apartment and the man was shot multiple times. The woman was shot once.
Detectives are confident that this was not a random act of violence. TPD says it appears that the suspects involved in the shooting knew the man who was shot.
The suspects had fled the scene before police arrived. Detectives are following up on all leads and are asking that if anyone has information to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
