TUCSON, Ariz. - Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire Department responded to a pedestrian collision near the eastside on Mar. 26, 2019.

The accident happened around 10:00 p.m. near East Pima Street and North Rook Avenue.

The victim was identified as 49-year-old David Benavidez.

He was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Officers and Detectives determined Benavidez was walking in a marked crosswalk traveling north to south. The driver of a 2018 Hyundia Sonota was traveling eastbound in the curb lane and struck Benavidez. The driver did stay on scene.

On Thursday Apr. 3, David Benavidez died from his injuries.

The family has been notified.

There have been no arrests or citations issued as of now.

This is an on-going investigation.
