TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Tucson police responded to a deadly crash on the southside involving a pedestrian Sunday, Feb. 14.
According to TPD, the incident happened in the 1100 block of West Ajo Way just before 9:30 p.m. That's between Mission Road and I-19.
On Tuesday, the pedestrian killed was identified as 58-year-old Michael Bernard Ortiz.
After further investigation, detectives learned that Ortiz was attempting to cross Ajo Way when he was struck by a vehicle heading eastbound.
TPD says Ortiz was not in a crosswalk.
The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the police. A DUI officer determined that the driver was not impaired.
