Bay says there was an argument between a 52-year-old man and a 23-year-old man in the 300 block of East Pastime that ended up in the roadway of East Pastime.
23-year-old Angel Mendoza went to his vehicle and almost struck the 52-year-old victim as he was leaving. Bay says the two men know each other.
The victim remained outside and yelled at Mendoza to leave. Mendoza then returned and attempted to strike the victim with his car but was unsuccessful.
Mendoza returned a second time and struck the victim with his vehicle multiple times. He then got out of his car and threatened the victim with a hammer while the victim was on the ground.
Mendoza left the scene and was then located a short distance away by police.
Aggravated Assault detectives then conducted their investigation.
Mendoza was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail for three counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument and 1 count of aggravated assault causing temporary but substantial injuries.
The roads have been re-opened.
