TUCSON, Arizona — The Tucson Police Department has appointed Monica Prieto as its new chief, succeeding Chad Kasmar, the department announced Monday on social media.

Prieto joined the department in 1999 and has worked in multiple divisions during more than 25 years of service, including three years as deputy chief.

"We are grateful for the appointment of Chief Prieto as she leads us in current and future challenges in our profession and within our community," the department said.
