TUCSON (KGUN-9) - A Tucson man is on edge after he says his window suddenly shattered while he was driving near I-10 on Friday.
He has since replaced his window and fortunately he wasn't hurt, but he's worried someone else might not be so lucky.
Chris Dewitt says he was driving near Ina and I-10 when something suddenly struck his window. The impact was strong enough to shatter the entire piece of glass. It left a small hole near the mirror on the driver's side.
This comes just three months after nearly a dozen cars were hit by bullets and other projectiles along the interstate in Phoenix.
Maricopa authorities believe they have the man responsible for some of those shots in custody, but are still investigating where the other ones came from.
"It's a lot scarier when it happens on the drivers side," said Dewitt. "Especially if I would have had my wife and kids with me, because if it was a bullet and it missed me going in right here, the direct path is right where my wife sits. The first thing that comes in to your mind is am I shot? Am I going to make it home?"
When it happened, Dewitt says he immediately pulled over and called 911. Sheriff's deputies searched his car and the surrounding area but have not found any trace of bullet casings or pellets.
Deputies say at this point, they have no idea what could have caused the glass to break. They believe it is an isolated incident and will continue to investigate
