Tucson Homeless Connect is hosting their 19th annual one-day event Friday morning for the homeless in the community.
Tucson Homeless Connect is designed to help homeless persons get off the streets. The homeless individuals and families will be assisted with I.D.'s, Court issues, clothing, health screenings, haircuts, drug and alcohol counseling, as well as help with shelter/housing, VA benefits, employment and other benefits.
One of the Co-Chairs for Tucson Homeless Connect Dee-Dee Samet said approximately 50 providers and 100 volunteers will be assisting an estimated number of 350 guests.
"We are here to help them overcome, so they can become a working member of society and have a place to sleep," Samet said.
The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd., Tucson, AZ.
"We don't call them homeless; we call them visitors," Samet said. "We don't want to make them feel less than anything else, because they're not."
