The Tucson Fire Department says a 30-year-old man drowned on Sunday.

Captain Andy Skaggs with TFD says it was reported around 9 p.m. on the 4200 block of East 29th.

Bystanders found the man unresponsive at the bottom of the pool and medics provided support on scene. Skaggs says the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Medics do not know how long the man had been at the bottom of the pool. Skaggs says the man was swimming at the pool at the apartment complex and was by himself.

Skaggs urges people, including adults, to swim with a buddy no matter what your skill level is.

It's unclear if the man had a medical emergency or what may have caused him to drown, Skaggs said.

According to Tracy Koslowski with the Drexel Heights Fire District says there have been 9 water-related incidents in Pima County this year including 5 deaths from water-related incidents.

Four of those were adults, according to county statistics, and one was a child younger than 5.

Last week 18-year-old Victoria Arias died after being found unresponsive at the bottom of her family's backyard pool.

Safety officials have noticed two trends: pediatric incidents have to do with broken or disabled barriers around pools, and the fatal incidents with adults involve adults swimming alone and not with a buddy.

Below are tips Koslowski provided on the ABC's of water safety:

Adults should have "eye to eye contact" with children when they have access to water.

Barriers between children and water can save a life.

Classes in CPR for adults and swimming lessons for children at the appropriate age will help everyone to know what to do in an emergency.
