In May of 2017 Tucson voted yes on Prop 101, which allowed the Tucson Fire Department to be able to purchase new equipment.
With the funds, TFD purchased 89 turnouts. They say this is the exact number they were looking to fill.
TFD Captain, Andrew Skaggs, said he is thankful Tucson voted to approve this proposition and it was time for an upgrade.
"If you can imagine, for firefighters to get the new gear, that's a new excitement level that's having that best protection possible."
Skaggs said the 89 turnouts will go to the firefighters who have had their current ones the longest.
Within a year, it is expected another group of firefighters will be in need of new turnouts since the standard life is around 5 years.
