The Tucson Fire Department received 62 new cardiac monitors from Prop 101 funds.

TFD began training Monday for new equipment.

TFD Captain Andrew Skaggs says the current monitors are about 10 years old and if they were to stop working, they would not be able to get replaced.

Skaggs says these new monitors were an absolute necessity.

"This is the difference between life and death on many of the calls we go on day in and day out," he said.

The total cost for the monitors was around $2 million.

Skaggs says the goal is to have all the monitors in service in about two weeks.
