Tucson bishop performs Mass for farmworkers

Posted

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona Catholic bishop has held a special Mass for farmworkers on a field where many work.

Diocese of Tucson Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas hosted the hour-long Mass honoring farmworkers every year, but Saturday was the first time he preached from the field.

Organizers said previous Masses have been held in the late morning hours, when many laborers have already gone to work.

This time, the church wanted to bring Mass directly to the workers.

Organizers say about 200 people showed up on a field in Yuma around 10 a.m.
