A Tucson animal hospital broke ground on Thursday morning on an expansion and remodel.

VCA Valley Animal Hospital and Emergency Center started work to expand its current facility to 19,000 feet.

The animal hospital currently takes care of a variety of animals, from pets, to the TPD K9 officers, Border Patrol K9's and even the animals at Reid Park Zoo.

VCA says it hopes to add more specialists to its staff along with the expansion.

The work is expected to be completed anywhere between 18 months and 2 years.

Mayor Jonathon Rothschild was also at the ground-breaking ceremony.
