Trip on a Tank: The Crayola Experience

Looking for a weekend excursion this summer? KGUN 9's "Trip on a Tank" shows you the best places, exhibits, museums and natural areas to take the family on just one tank of gas. This week, Allen "Big Al" Kath visits the Crayola Experience in Chandler.

Although Crayola is best known for markers and crayons, the company believes they've changed the way kids play, merging both art and technology.

We started with naming and wrapping our own crayon: Pick a color, write the text and out comes a custom label for wrapping your crayon.

Another exhibit lets the artist make a masterpiece by selecting several colors, melting them and letting the hot wax drip onto a paper clipped down tight to a spinning wheel.

Little ones are welcome to chase Crayola objects around a large floor, like Twister but with a lot more movement.

They can also bring their coloring page to life and animate it with Crayola's "Color Magic". Nearby, take a picture of yourself and one of Crayola's computers renders it into a cartoon page, ready for coloring.

For an extra cost, you can immortalize your hands at a wax exhibit.

Crayola also has a souvenir store next door to the exhibits, with hundreds of thousands of crayons that have been creatively used as a decorative wall.

Every family member will have a favorite exhibit at the Crayola Experience and you're able to repeat them as many times as you'd like.

The Crayola Experience is located in the Chandler Fashion Center.
