Tucson police identified the man who died in a southside wreck Monday.
Police say 29-year-old David Verdugo perished in the two-vehicle collision at Nogales Highway and Bilby that happened just after 2:30 p.m. that day.
Officer Hawkins with Tucson Police says one man was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital. He says two people from the second vehicle were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Nogales Highway was blocked off starting at Valencia. Bilby was blocked to the east starting at 1st. The intersection was reopened around 7:10 p.m.
Verdugo drove a maroon 2005 F-150 pickup truck was heading eastbound on Bilby at a high speed toward Nogales Highway. He passed several vehicles that were stopped in the through lane, ran a red light and was hit by a white 2011 Jeep Patriot heading northbound on Nogales Highway.
Verdugo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and killed. The motorists in the Jeep were wearing their seatbelts and survived.
