Tucson Police are investigating a single vehicle fatal collision that happened on Speedway near Greasewood around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to a TPD media release, members from the Tucson Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The man has been identified as 18-year-old Ernesto Contreras.

"Officers were also advised approximately three to four others associated with the vehicle fled prior to police arrival."

After an investigation, detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit determined that a white 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix was driving eastbound on Speedway at a high rate of speed.

According to TPD, the driver of the vehicle lost control and veered into a desert area on the south side of Speedway.

The car hit several trees before rolling over and landing on its roof. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

"The other occupants were picked up by another vehicle and left the scene. One adult male and one adult female have since been located and sustained minor injuries. Two females remain outstanding with unknown injuries." - TPD

The two females have since been located and interviewed. Sgt. Bay with TPD says they suffered minor injuries.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.

Eastbound Speedway was closed East of Greasewood for several hours. It has since reopened.
