TUCSON, Ariz. — A new program is helping refugee youth find a place in society.

Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest is an organization that helps refugees settle in communities, one of those is Tucson.

Recently, the organization said it saw a need to help refugee youth, since many of them come to this country alone.

This program partners refugees with different organization across Tucson to show these students life after school.

"Many of the refugee youth are here by themselves or they're isolated so the goal of the program is to help build community and a sense of belonging," Chief Program Officer for Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest Karen Bamford said.

Their largest partnership is with the Tucson Police Department.

"When Lutheran Social Services asked us to be involved in this program wow it was just a real terrific opportunity to make a difference out there especially with our refugee status population," TPD Community Engagement Coordinator Margo Susco said.

The organization said it is always taking more partnerships. Follow the link for more information go here.
