Tucson Police detained a man who barricaded himself in a midtown apartment near Ft. Lowell and Richey Blvd Friday.
According to TPD, officers received a call just after 9:00 a.m. reporting a man had held the caller at gunpoint.
The suspect then called 9-1-1 and said he just poured gasoline all over the apartment and opened gas valves. TPD says the man was threatening to hurt himself.
SWAT, hostage negotiators, and TFD were called in to assist.
SWAT was able to get close to the home and saw smoke coming from it.
The subject then came out of his apartment. He was transported to the hospital because he had inhaled smoke and also cut himself.
The suspect has been identified as 56-year-old Richard Robertson.
Sgt. Dugan with TPD says Robertson is facing aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument and kidnapping.
