TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tiny houses are the subject of cable TV shows and popular in home showcases and the idea behind it all, living small.
The Escape Traveler Trailer stopped by the KGUN9 parking lot, letting us explore the inside. It has full sized appliances, full bathroom, and space for a queen bed all fit inside about 330 sq. ft.
Escape Travelers are different from the rest of the Tiny House movement because they are also mobile, functioning like an RV, even with the same permits.
"Live small but live large at the same time, get the luxury of a full sized house but you're in a travel trailer," said Duane Zehm, he helps build and transport the homes across the country from their Wisconsin manufacturing plant.
The starting price for one of these homes: $77,500.
"Some people are buying them and using them for AirBNB, other people are using them for a mother-in-law cabin in their backyard, or just as a guest souse," said Zehm.
It's also popular among those who are environmentally conscious. Some buyers take these trailers totally off the grid - needing no electrical or plumbing connection.
"That means you can go out in the middle of the woods and live in it," said Zehm.
He says while some customers are ditching their homes and downsizing to something tiny, others are going small from the start.
"What people are doing now is they are starting small and staying small. They're not getting a big house and then trying to downsize into something like this," said Zehm.
