TUCSON, Ariz. -- Three local fire agencies have announced a historic agreement on Thursday. The goal is to better serve people in the community.

Tucson Fire, Golder Ranch Fire District and Northwest Fire are included in this agreement. All have agreed to send the closest and most appropriate resources to emergencies, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

"Staff members got together and started working collaboratively to really look at the response systems to identify the similarities," said Golder Ranch Fire Chief Randy Karrer. "What we found was, we all did the same things. It was the most amazing thing. We said to ourselves, why haven't we done this before."

The agreement is expected to take effect in 2020.
