CHANDLER, Ariz. — Over three thousand hams were donated Wednesday to four food banks, including the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
Each ham donated can feed four people, which means the total donation will feed over 13 thousand people.
Bashas' and Hormel Foods teamed up to provide the hams. This was the 30th Hormel Foods donated as part of their "Hams for Hunger" campaign.
Representatives from United Food Bank, Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, Navajo Nation Veterans Administration and St. Mary’s Food Bank helped load trucks with the food at a distribution center.
Arizona is tenth worst place in the nation for food insecurity, and one in seven people in the state struggle with hunger.
About one in four children in Arizona experience hunger or food insecurity.
