The Tucson Department of Transportation is helping Tucsonans prepare for potential flooding due to Monsoon by distributing free sand bags.
TDOT will distribute free sand bags in the north parking lot of the Tucson Rodeo Grounds located at 4823 S. Sixth Avenue every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice.
A self-serve sandbag site is also open now in the east parking lot of Hi-Corbett Field located at 700 S. Randolph Way. Residents must bring their own shovel and fill their own bags at this location. In order to get sandbags to as many people as possible, there will be a limit of ten per vehicle.
This distribution program is part of TDOT's annual Operation Splash Program.
With all low-lying areas in the City of Tucson that is subject to flooding, City crews are on call day and night to place more than 500 barricades at 150 crossings.
