Tucson police are investigating a robbery and shooting that happened early Sunday morning on the westside.
TPD says just before 5 a.m. officers began receiving reports of shots fired in the area of North Westmoreland Avenue and West Alameda Street.
Officers responded to both areas and found an adult male taxi cab driver with obvious signs of trauma.
Members from the Tucson Fire Department responded and transported the man to a local hospital. He is expected to be okay.
Detectives say the driver was picking up a fare when two Hispanic men entered the cab. The men immediately pulled out guns and demanded money and other property from the driver.
TPD said one of the suspects hit the driver in the head with the gun. The driver began to pull away and the two men jumped out of the car.
As the victim was driving away, both men began shooting at the car and hit it multiple times.
The driver went a few blocks into downtown and immediately called police.
Officers searched the area but did not find either of the shooters.
