PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police are searching for two men who broke into a fire station and opened fire on firefighters.
Authorities say the incident occurred Thursday around 8:30 p.m. at a fire station near 47th Avenue and Dobbins Road.
The crew on duty noticed a suspect breaking into their fire engine parked in the station's fenced yard.
Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson says firefighters detained him but then a second suspect began shooting at them.
The two suspects then fled on foot. Officers set up a perimeter and searched the area. They both remain at large.
Thompson says no firefighters were injured in the ordeal.
Because of the station's location, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office will take over the investigation.
