PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a suspect who led police on a 60-mile (96-kilometer) chase in central Arizona jumped out of a vehicle just before it went over a cliff and into a canyon.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says the chase started Monday night when a trooper spotted the stolen vehicle driven by the suspect in north metro Phoenix and the driver refused to stop.

Graves says a DPS helicopter followed the suspect as he continued northward on Interstate 17 and headed into Yavapai County, where he made two unsuccessful carjacking attempts.

Graves says the man bailed out of the car around Prescott Valley and was later found hiding in a tree on the canyon's rim.

The suspect, whose name wasn't available, was treated for minor injuries.
