TUCSON, Ariz. — The Sunnyside Unified School District created the District Parent Council to help bridge the gap between parents and involvement.

It's been running for three years, letting parents hold their own meeting with school officials.

Since it's start, district officials said they've seen an increase in success in the classroom. The meetings last for one hour and happen at least once a month. Usually, they are held on Wednesday.

"I feel that when parents understand some of the things that are going on in the district versus just reading about it on social media then we're all on the same page, and we can continue to support one another," Sunnyside Unified School District Title One Coordinatior Andrea Foster said.

Parents will get the chance to sit down with the superintendent for that hour-long meeting tonight at five. The meeting will be at the Sunnyside Unified School District building at 2238 East Ginter Road, Tucson Arizona 85706.

If you can't make that meeting, another one will be held on Thursday January 30th at 8:30 a.m. at Sunnyside High School. This will be the first breakfast meeting they're holding for parents and principals across the school district.
