Every day hundreds of thousands of Arizona students ride buses to and from school and field trips.
A new statewide investigation reveals they may not be as safe as you think.
According to the report, nearly three out of ten school buses failed safety inspections last year for "major defects".
That failure rate almost doubled from 15.4 percent in 2013 to 29 percent in 2015.
TUSD's fleet of buses had better numbers only a 19 percent failure rate last year.
"The inspections are improving. The results are improving. Road calls are down. All the meanwhile we've taken an almost 8% reductions in the maintenance and we are still providing a good safe product."
TUSD's Fleet Manager says the district's buses are tested three times a year by DPS as well as at a local level to meet the Arizona minimum standards.
