TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The start to St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Tucson began at the Auld Dubliner, with "The Great Irish Toast" and a donation to a good cause.
The Sea Merchants came down from Phoenix to perform at the bar on University Saturday night. It was a lively beginning to St. Patrick's Day celebrations, but for a good cause.
Kendall Church, whose father was shot in the line of duty, received a $5,000 scholarship.
"I just think it's very important to support those who stand behind the badge for us. You can't, you know, beat that kind of sacrifice. You can't see that anywhere else and I'm really grateful to all of them and appreciate all of their hard work," said Church.
The event was sponsored by the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival of Tucson Committee.
The 29th annual festival begins Sunday, March 13th at 10a.m. at Armory Park. The parade begins at 11a.m. on the same day at Stone and 16th.
