TUCSON, Ariz. — A 53-year-old inmate is dead after an incident at the Pima County Jail Thursday.
The Pima County Sheriff's say 53-year-old inmate David Maxwell died after an altercation with Corrections Officer Jason Hubert Thursday at around 2 p.m.
Sources tell KGUN 9 Maxwell attacked Hubert, who punched Maxwell to defend himself. Maxwell then fell to the floor and hit his head.
PCSD says they tried to save Maxwell's life, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Hubert has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, as is protocol, PCSD says.
