Sierra Vista police officer struck by vehicle during struggle with suspect

A Sierra Vista police officer has been released from the hospital after a foot pursuit with a suspect Friday night. 

The officer was chasing the female suspect when a struggled ensued in the middle of Fry Blvd.

Both were struck by the vehicle according to Corporal Wachtel with SVPD. 

Authorities say the incident started when police received a shoplifting report at an Ace Hardware Store at 3756 East Fry Boulevard just before 7 p.m. 

The officer saw a woman matching the description of a suspect and tried to take her into custody. 

The woman ran into the middle of Fry Boulevard and a struggle ensued between her and the officer. Both were then struck by a Toyota sedan that was traveling eastbound. 

The officer was transported by helicopter to a hospital and the suspect was transported to a local hospital in an ambulance.

The female suspect remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. She is in stable condition at this time.
