TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The University of Arizona Police Department continues to investigate a shooting that occurred outside the Keating/Bio5 building on Wednesday evening.

UAPD received a 911 call at 7:34 p.m. reporting possible gun shots fired in the area of the Keating/Bio5 building located at 1657 East Helen Street.

Sgt. Filbert Barrera, spokesperson with UAPD says that officers responded and located several shell casings and small amount of blood.

An extensive search of the area was conducted to locate a victim and possible suspects, said Barrera.

At 9 p.m. a local hospital reported a 23-year-old man needed assistance for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his buttocks.

Barrera says the victim was treated and released from the hospital early Thursday morning.

Police determined the victim was the person of interest they has been searching for in the UAlerts.

The victim told investigators he rode the Sun Link Streetcar to the Warren Ave. stop, and got off the streetcar, he said he was approached by three African-American men, said Barrera.

One of the suspects shot at the victim several times, striking the victim once.

A witness assisted UAPD in completing a composite image of the individual, said Barrera.

Police say the suspects fled in a “dark colored SUV.”

UAPD believes the victim and the suspects had a previous encounter off campus and the shooting incident was directed specifically at the victim, said Barrera.
