PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona sheriff who in the past has adamantly opposed putting body cameras on officers is now boasting that 700 of his deputies have been issued the recording devices.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio made a Twitter posting Monday that claimed the roll-out marks the largest use of body cameras in Arizona.
700 Body Cams have now been issed to my deputies. Largest deployment of body cams in AZ. I will be flipping the ON switch soon! Stay tuned.

His posting, however, didn't note that he had previously opposed body cameras and was ordered to get them as part of a racial profiling case that he lost.
The cameras are part of a sweeping overhaul of the sheriff's office that was ordered by a federal judge who ruled two years ago that Arpaio's officers had racially profiled Latinos.
The sheriff's office didn't immediately respond to an interview request early Tuesday afternoon.
